Murray Stephens has been the Head Coach of the North Baltimore Aquatic Club for 38 years. Murray and his staff have made NBAC the most prestigious Age Group and Olympic Development USS club in the country.
In 1992, Murray was Anita Nall's coach when she set a World Record in the 200 meter Breaststroke and went on to earn gold, silver, and bronze medals in Barcelona. In 1996 while Murray served as Assistant Coach on the Women's Olympic Team staff , his NBAC swimmers Whitney Metzler and Beth Botsford swam for the Women's Team. Whitney placed eighth in the 400 IM and Beth won gold medals in the 100 backstroke and 400 Medley Relay. In the fall of 1996, Murray was named USOC Coach of the Year for Swimming as well as American Swim Coaches Association Coach of the Year. Professionally, Murray constructed, owns, and operates Meadowbrook, his own swimming/triathlon 50 meter pool and fitness center. He also serves on the both American Swimming Coaches Board of Directors, and on the Board of Directors of United States Swimming. In January 1998, Murray traveled to Perth, Australia as coach for the United States to the FINA World Aquatic Championships. Currently Murray is on the Board of Baltimore 2012 which is working actively to bring the Olympics to Baltimore in 2012.
